Run the same kind of project again and again? Save one as a template and start the next one with its board already in place.

## Save a project as a template

1. Open the project's **⋮** menu, at the top of the project, on its card in **Projects**, or on its row in the list view
2. Choose **Save as template**
3. Give the template a name, like *Brand identity package*
4. Tick **Include client portal setup** if you want the portal to come along too
5. Click **Save template**

The template is a separate project, marked **Template** on your Projects board. The original project doesn't change.

## What a template keeps

- The board's columns and tasks, with descriptions, estimates and subtasks
- With **Include client portal setup**: the portal layout, scope, milestones, deliverable placeholders and requests

New projects start with every task in **To Do**. Dates, assignees, comments, files and billing aren't copied. On the portal side, client responses, approvals, attachments, dates and sharing links start empty.

## Start a project from a template

1. Go to **Projects** and click **Add New Project**
2. Click **Browse templates**
3. Choose a template, name the project and, if you like, pick a client
4. Click **Create project**

The new project is its own copy. Changing the template later doesn't change projects you've already made from it.

## Edit or delete a template

Open a template from **Projects** like any other project, or click the pencil next to it in **Browse templates**. It's a normal board: rename columns, add and move tasks, and changes save as you go. The next project made from it picks them up.

To delete one, click the **X** next to it in **Browse templates** and confirm. Projects already made from it stay as they are.

Templates don't show up in your Planner or count towards your workload.

## Portal templates

Portal templates are project templates saved with **Include client portal setup** ticked. You can use them in two places:

- **Starting a new portal:** in **Client Portals**, click **Add client portal** (or **Set up your first client portal**), then **Browse templates**. Pick a template, name the project, choose the client and click **Create client portal**. The new project opens on its portal setup, with the milestones, scope, deliverables and requests already filled in.
- **On a project you already have:** open the project's **Client Portal** tab and click **Apply template**. This adds the portal setup only and leaves your tasks alone. It's only offered while the project's portal is empty and has never been shared.

**Save as template** also sits on a project's **Client Portal** tab. For everything else in portal setup, see [Share a project through the portal](https://www.monodesk.com/help/client-portal/share-a-project-through-the-portal).
