Turning on a client's portal gives them the link. **What they see for each project** is set up on the project itself: open the project and go to its **Client Portal** tab. A guided **Portal setup** walks you through four steps. Everything you add here appears on this project's page in the portal.

## 1. Project plan

How your client follows progress. A **Milestones | Board** switch at the top lets you pick one of two views for each project. Switching never changes your milestones, so you can try both.

**Milestones** are the phases your client sees on their timeline. Think *Discovery*, *Design Concepts*, *Build*, *Launch*.

- **Status follows task progress automatically**, with no manual updating. A milestone reads *Up next*, then *In progress* as soon as one of its tasks starts, then *Complete* when every task is done
- Each milestone has a **Show on client portal** toggle, and a **Show these tasks to clients** toggle if you want them to see the task names and progress underneath
- With tasks shown, turn on **Show task status** and each task gets a small *To do*, *Doing* or *Done* label
- **Show subtasks** (on by default) decides whether subtask names appear under the tasks

**Board** shows your client a simple **To do**, **Doing** and **Done** board of the project's main tasks, by name only. Your client never sees assignees, notes, times or your column names.

- A task you've started is in *Doing*, a completed task is in *Done*, and everything else is *To do*
- Tasks keep the order they have on your board. Archived tasks are left out
- Turn on **Show subtasks** (off by default) to list each task's subtasks inside its card
- A preview shows exactly what your client will see

## 2. Scope

Set expectations by listing what's included, *and what isn't*, in this project. Click **Generate Scope** and MonoDesk drafts both lists from your project details (it's good at the "not included" list people forget: client-supplied copywriting, hosting, photography). Edit or add items by hand.

## 3. Deliverables

The things you owe the client. Each deliverable takes attachments (files or URLs), a due date, and a comment for the client, plus a **Requires Approval** toggle. Approval-required deliverables show as *Pending client approval* until your client signs off, right in the portal.

If the page refreshes while you're writing the comment, it's still there when you come back. **Cancel** clears it.

## 4. Requests

What you need *from* them. Start from a template (**Brand assets**, **Copy and content**, **Login or access details**, **Project brief**, **Feedback or approval**) and tailor it. You can attach a request to a task, so what the client sends lands where the work happens.

Your client can answer with files, a link or text, and add a comment. You get an email when they reply, depending on your [Client Portal Emails setting](https://www.monodesk.com/help/teams-account/your-profile-and-settings#client-portal-emails).

## Preview and share

**Client preview** shows exactly what your client will see (desktop and mobile) before you send anything. Changes are live; the portal always reflects the current state.
